Saturday saw Richmond Rugby take on second place Coventry at home. Richmond and Coventry fought out a thrilling draw at the Athletic Ground, the home side’s equalising score coming in the most dramatic of final minutes. Second placed Coventry arrived with a proud sequence of sixteen consecutive victories but an injury depleted Richmond side never let them settle and put in their best performance of the season. The three points gained included a four-try bonus, maintaining seventh position in the league.
Richmond fielded an inexperienced starting XV including six players who had played less than five first team games. The visitors dominated the early play with Richmond up fast in defence but conceding too many penalties. It was from a sequence of penalties that Coventry got the first try.
Richmond’s points came thanks to tries by Rossiter, Scott, Williams, Chambers
with a conversion and 2 penalties by Kirby – a draw at 28:28
